The Child Opportunity Index 3.0 is updated regularly with new data, years of coverage and methodological improvements. COI 3.0 data is not strictly comparable across different releases, despite very high correlation between them. To distinguish between different releases, each COI 3.0 release is labeled with the most recent year of data included.

The latest release of the Child Opportunity Index, COI 3.0-2023, was published in 2025 and includes data covering the years from 2012 through 2023. We recommend that all new users and new projects use COI 3.0-2023.

COI 3.0-2023 release includes data for all years included in past COI 3.0 releases but extends the time series to the most recent year available. 

The datasets in this section are past releases of COI 3.0 that are not updated. 

The initial release of the Child Opportunity Index 3.0 (published in 2024) included data covering the years from 2012 through 2021. When published, it was titled COI 3.0 and has been retroactively relabed as COI 3.0-2021 to reflect its latest year of coverage.

The Child Opportunity Index 2.0 was published in January 2020 and is no longer updated. It includes data for the years 2012 and 2017.
