Kate Giapponi Schneider

Kate Giapponi Schneider is a research scientist at the Institute for Child, Youth and Family Policy (ICYFP) at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University.

Giapponi Schneider’s research focuses on the fields of early education and care and public assistance. In particular, she provides expertise on child care subsidy policy including conducting research on state and local variation and equity issues in child care subsidy administration, application and use. Giapponi Schneider is currently working in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care on two federally funded research grants, investigating 1) the implementation and impact of policy changes required under the Child Care and Development Block Grant Act of 2014 and 2) the availability, quality and stability of subsidized child care across the state and the relationship between care quality, stability and child development outcomes.

Prior to joining ICYFP, Giapponi Schneider was a senior consultant at Public Consulting Group, specializing in survey research, program evaluation, needs assessments and business process reviews.  She was also a Society for Research in Child Development Postdoctoral State Policy Fellow at the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care and a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation Early Care and Education Research Scholar. Giapponi Schneider holds both doctorate and master’s degrees in social policy from Brandeis University, a master’s of business administration from Clark University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the College of the Holy Cross.
